Consul General Tong Xiaoling Meets with Professor Jack Lohman of Royal British Columbia Museum

On July 6, Consul General Tong Xiaoling met with Professor Jack Lohman, Chief Executive Officer of Royal British Columbia Museum.

Professor Lohman briefed Consul General Tong about the frequent and fruitful exchanges between Royal BC Museum and some prestigious museums in China in recent years. As the Vice-President of the Canadian Museums Association, he’s also been devoted to facilitate tie-up the exchanges between the Association and its counterpart in China, the Chinese Museums Association. Professor Lohman also expressed his fondness for Chinese history and culture, especially his interest in Buddhist art in Dunhuang area. He pointed out that Royal BC Museum is the only museum in Canada that has a global agenda and the present focus is on China.

Consul General Tong thanked Professor Lohman for the introduction and acknowledged all the efforts and achievements made in promoting exchanges between Royal BC Museum and museums in China. She also provided suggestions on how to make use of museum exchange to further expand cultural and people-to-people cooperation on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Canada in 2020.

Consul General Tong visited the museum’s collections of early Chinese immigrants before the meeting.
