On May 31, Consul General Yang Shu attended the 30th Anniversary Celebration of the Sister Province Relationship Between British Columbia and Guangdong.

Consul General Yang said that Guangdong and BC share a long-standing and profound friendship. The establishment of sister relationship reflects a resonance of shared spirit and the commitment to mutual benefit. Over the past three decades, the two provinces have achieved fruitful cooperation across various fields, building a bridge of friendship across the vast Pacific. He emphasized that the U.S.’s unilateral tariff has disrupted the global economic order, affecting both China and Canada. Given the strong complementarity in their economic structures, Guangdong and BC have broad prospects for collaboration. Consul General Yang expressed hope that both sides would continue expanding win-win cooperation to better benefit their peoples.

The event was hosted by the BC Guangdong Business Council and the Canada International Trade Promotion Society. Member of Parliament Parm Bains, BC Minister of Citizens’ Services George Chow, Parliamentary Secretary for Asia-Pacific Trade Paul Choi, BC MLAs Teresa Wat, Hon Chan, and Steve Kooner, former BC Premier Mike Harcourt who signed the sister-province agreement, and around 200 representatives from various sectors attended the celebration.
