President Hu highlights multi-party co-op

Chinese President Hu Jintao Friday calls for unremitting efforts to adhere to and further improve the policy of multi-party cooperation and political consultation under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

    BEIJING, Feb. 4 (Xinhuanet) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao Friday calls for unremitting efforts to adhere to and further improve the policy of multi-party cooperation and political consultation under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

    Addressing a group of leaders from non-Communist parties, Hu, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, set forth five requirements for the multi-party cooperation and political consultations under the CPC leadership.

    He acknowledged China should persevere in multi-party cooperation and political consultative under CPC leadership.

    Among other requirements, Hu said China should fully display and carry forward socialist democracy; only by adhering to Party leadership, can multi-party cooperation have the correct orientation and hence the fundamental guarantee for the nation's rejuvenation.

    Moreover, persistent efforts should be taken to make development the fundamental task for multi-party cooperation and political consultation.

    Persevering efforts should also be made so as to make multi-party cooperation and political consultation systematic, standardized and in an orderly way .

    And consistent efforts should be taken for the mutual promotion of the construction of the party in power and the construction of parties participating in power.

    All parties should work to promote the nation's economic development, and China should explore ways for more and better multi-party cooperation, Hu said.

    Hu also said both CPC and others parties should work to meet the new challenges of the times.

    To reinforce the multi-party cooperation and political consultative work plays a vital role in resolving problems and challenges China has faced, and they should keep following the concept of scientific development so as to guide China's economic and social development and contribute to the creation of a harmonious society.

    Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, presided over the gathering. Leaders of eight non-Communist parties include He Luli, chairwoman of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, Cheng Siwei, chairman of the China Democratic NationalConstruction Association, and Luo Haocai, chairman of the China Zhi Gong Party (Public Interest Party).

    Huang Mengfu, chairman of All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, also attended the gathering to greet the New Year. Enditem
