BEIJING, June 16 (Xinhuanet) -- The central government's macro-economic control measures have been proved to be timely, correct and effective, according to Wednesday's executive meeting of the State Council, which was presided over by Premier Wen Jiabao.

The current economic situation is sound in general as the government's macro-economic control measures have gained remarkable achievements, the participants agreed.

However, according to the meeting, there still exist some protruding contradictions and problems like the excessively large investment scale and there is a tension in the relations between the transportation, demand and supply of coal, electricity and oil. The macro-economic control should not be relaxed, it noted.

The meeting urged local governments and different central government departments to further implement the central government's macro-economic control policies and measures.

It called for continuous efforts to curb the fast growth of bank loans; step up control over land management; strengthen the management of grain market; be well prepared for fighting floods and droughts; implement measures to deal with power shortage in summer; increase assistance to agriculture, water conservancy, environment and social undertakings; deal with the issues of employment and re-employment; and increase the efforts to watch over the issues of food security and industrial safety.

The meeting also studied the preparatory work for the implementation of the Law on Administrative Approval. Enditem
