On February 22, the House of Commons of Canada, in disregard of China's solemn position, passed a motion making false accusation that “a genocide is currently being carried out by the People’s Republic of China against Uyghurs and other Turkic Muslims”, called upon the International Olympic Committee to move the 2022 Olympic Games and called on the Canadian government to officially adopt this position, which is a gross interference in China's internal affairs and a malicious provocation against the 1.4 billion Chinese people. We strongly condemn this disgraceful move.

"Genocide" is clearly-defined in international law, which cannot be pinned to China. In the past 60 years and more, Xinjiang's GDP expanded by over 200 times, with per capita GDP growing by nearly 40 times. And its average life expectancy increased from 30 to 72. From 2010 to 2018, the population of the Uyghurs in Xinjiang rose from 10.17 million to 12.72 million, an increase of 2.55 million or 25%. The growth rate is higher than that of the whole population in Xinjiang, which is 14%, and much higher than that of the Han population, which is 2%. How is it in any way "genocide"? Instead, the Canadian side should ask itself when it comes to committing “genocide” and reflect deeply on the miserable experience of its indigenous people.

The majority of Canadian MPs who support the above motion have never been to Xinjiang or even to China. They have been engaged in political manipulation on Xinjiang-related issues under the pretext of human rights, in an attempt to interfere in China's internal affairs and earn political capital by playing China card. How hypocritical and despicable! They are still trying to continue to poke their nose into China in the 21st century. How arrogant and ignorant! They are hyping up the topic of Beijing Winter Olympics based on political lies, and politicizing sports, which completely runs counter to the Olympic Charter and jeopardizes the Olympics and the interests of athletes around the world. How selfish and narrow-minded!

I would like to reiterate that Xinjiang-related issues are never about human rights, ethnicity or religion, but about combating violent terrorism and secession. The preventive counter-terrorism and de-radicalization measures taken in Xinjiang have effectively curbed the frequent occurrence of terrorist activities, so that the life safety of people of all ethnic groups is guaranteed, and greater progress has been made in local economy and living standards. This is to protect to the greatest extent the basic human rights of people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang. The international community bears witness to this. Since 2018, more than 1,200 people from over 100 countries have visited Xinjiang. That includes UN officials, foreign diplomats posted in China, some countries' permanent representatives to Geneva, journalists, and religious groups. They saw with their own eyes a region thriving with stability and prosperity and commended its exemplary counter-terrorism and de-radicalization efforts.

The Chinese side is resolute in safeguarding China's sovereignty, security and development interests, as well as upholding Xinjiang's development, stability and ethnic solidarity. The Canadian side's attempt to contain China's development through the afore-mentioned Xinjiang-related motion will never succeed. We urge these politicians to face the fact, stop interfering in China's internal affairs, stop using the Xinjiang-related issue to seek their own interests, and stop engaging in the anti-China farce, otherwise they will end up humiliating themselves.
